Purpose of the role
The purpose of this role is to manage and develop a small team, whilst supporting the business and Finance team in managing key areas of cost, ensuring high standards of accounting, reporting and forecasting, interpreting results and trends to deliver insight to the business to assist in decision making and effective cost management.

Key Duties / Responsibilities
• Champion a strong cost control ethos and improve visibility and analysis of key costs to allow for more effective management
• Be responsible for ensuring there is a  strong adherence to group policies through the day to day management and reporting of business costs
• Lead the team in budgeting, forecasting and managing the month-end processes for areas of responsibility including but not limited to:
- Monthly prepayments, accruals and journal postings
- Monthly flash forecasts 
- Delivering the month end P&L, providing meaningful variance analysis to budget, forecast and last year
- Monthly balance sheet reconciliations 
- Delivering the budget and quarterly forecasts following review with budget holders
• Take accountability for embedding IFRS16 into the team, ensuring strong accounting and budgetary control, as well as being the main contact for Group Finance on the new Group Lease Database
• Continuously implement improvements in relation to financial and business processes
• Liaise with Auditors on Year End accounts, ensuring you explain the prepayments/accruals held at year end
• Provide support on any ad hoc corporate or departmental initiatives, projects or tenders as determined by the strategic agenda 

People Management 
• Provide day to day support to the Retail & Central Analysts 
• Train, coach and develop the Retail & Central Analysts  
• Take ownership for conducting regular one to one meetings and appraisals in a timely manner, setting clear and achievable objectives and ensuring development plans are in place 
• Act as a lead example to drive engagement and ensure a high level of service is offered within the business

Essentials 
Experience 

• Previous experience of working in a similar role, delivering efficiencies and cost control
• Demonstrable experience of managing and developing a team of part qualified studiers
• Proven experience of reporting to tight deadlines, managing high volumes of work and delivering accuracy at all times

Knowledge 
• A qualified accountant or qualified by experience 
• Knowledge of the latest and upcoming financial developments and legislation 

Skills 
• Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to deliver with others 
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 
• Strong numeracy and accuracy skills 
• Demonstrable ability to organise, priortise and manage time effectively, delivering accuracy at all times in a fast paced environment
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel 
• Strong core accounting and technical skills

Desirable
Experience 

• Experience of using Oracle Financials
• Previous retail or FMCG experience 

 Knowledge 
• Knowledge of IFRS 16
