Learning at The Perfume Shop
They are often found hard at work writing, launching and overseeing training initiatives to support line managers to shape the best teams. Whether this is from our The Perfume School programme, customer or people roadshows, or one off events such as Michael Edwards Master Classes (to name a few). These are always well received by our teams and keeps them focused on what is important, which is their knowledge to do their job well and to deliver world class service to our customers.
There are three key development tools that are used successfully to support our teams to learn and develop in store:
The Perfume School:
There are three levels of The Perfume School:
- Foundation – The introduction to all team members in their fragrance journey! They have the opportunity to learn all about our expectations on product expertise, brand knowledge and operations in store
- Diploma – Takes our people’s service and expertise learning to the next level
- Masters – A course for employees with perfume passion!
The Management Academy:
The Management Academy is a programme offered to all new managers
into the business, whether newly promoted or brand new into the business.
This learning takes place both in store and in workshops. Follow up
workshop will take place during their first year including people
management, customer and managing Christmas.
The Management Academy and The Perfume School make up our in store ‘Learning Ladder’ which is a tool used in store for Managers and Area Managers to support their team members development. This development tool is important in shaping our teams career with us and informs their development plans and performance reviews, which is our review system, ‘The ME Plan’.
The ME Plan:
The ME Plan is all about reviewing and supporting our employee’s performance and development. It allows our store employees an opportunity to talk about their performance in store and their personal development with their line manager. The L&D team spend a lot of time reviewing the content of each team members ME Plan so that we can easily identify talent in the business.
Our Office and Warehouse Learning
We offer a number of different training courses dependant on needs, requirements and requests. These can be internally run through our L&D team, or held by external providers. This year we have held courses on coaching & mentoring, project management, time management and perfume led courses (such as our Fragrance Foundation). We also support a number of people in our Operations Team, Office and Warehouse to attend Oxford Summer School each year, more information on this can be found at http://www.oxfordsummerschool.co.uk/.
The Fragrance Foundation
With over 400 of our team members being sponsored by us to undertake this course we now have the highest number of people in any business throughout Europe who have undertaken this course which really showcases our expertise and knowledge.
Being A Perfume Master
We are running the same course this year, which is seeing lots of new and very exciting events, including a trip to Paris!
Dawn is now a fully fledged Perfume Master, here is what she says about the course:
